Gnomish is a descendant language from [[Elvish]]. Though many of its grammar and lexicon stays the same, there have been a few phonetical and grammatical changes throughout the solidification of the language. The alphabet has also adapted along with the gnomes. The changes the language has been through can be followed with the following steps: 1) The verbification prefix is instead used as a topic marker, freeing up the word order. The new topic marker also drops the trailing 'n'. *For example:* Dithas **an**frath --> Dithas**a** frath Allowey **man**ibe --> Ibe Allowey**ma** Yume **yan**mor --> yume**ya** mor 2) Grammatical shift. Due to loss of verbification prefix there is no difference between 'mal' verb and 'mal' conjunction, thus possession is changed to a prefix 'al'. This again frees up word order. *For example:* Fothes **mal** Dithas anelles --> **Al**dithas fothesa elles 1) Phonetic simplification. The combination of 'thi' morphs towards 'fi'. *For example:* El**thi**s --> El**fi**s 4) Phonetic simplification. The combination of 'the' morphs towards 'te'. *For example:* Fo**the**s --> Fo**te**s 5) Phonetic simplification. The personification suffix '-is' loses its trailing 's'. *For example:* On**is** --> On**i** 6) Phonetic simplification. The masculine suffix '-ath' loses its trailing 'h'. *For example:* Ign**ath** --> Ign**at** 7) Phonetic simplification. The feminine suffix '-es' loses its trailing 's'. *For example:* Mal**es** --> Mal**e** 8) Phonetic simplification. trailing 'h' at the end of the word after a vowel drops. *For example:* Orn**ah** --> Orn**a** 9) Grammatical shift.
