Elvish is the current language of the elves. The language finds its roots in [[Sylvan]]. However, the flow of time has long changed its shape from the language of the Fey. The official reading order of the language is top to bottom, instead of left to right as in the common tongue. However, to simplify the reading of this page, all elvish will be written left to right.

### Alphabet
The elvish alphabet is known as the '*esmari*' (<span class='elvish'>esmari</span>) and consists of 17 glyphs, four of which can be augmented with a diacritic.
| Alphabet | Elvish | Glyph Name |
| :------- | :------------------------------------ | ---------- |
| E | <span class="elvish">E, e</span> | Ell |

| L | <span class="elvish">L, l</span> | Low |
| N | <span class="elvish">N, n</span> | Nol |
### Diphthongs
The elvish language has no distinct diphthongs, all vowels in vowel clusters are pronounced individually from each other.
### Diacritics
The one diacritic used in elvish is known as the '*thecif*' (<span class='elvish'>uecif</span>). It is a small dot placed under the glyph to augment the phonetical sound of the glyph to one close by. There are four glyph on which the diacritic is used:
* P becomes B (<span class='elvish'>p/b</span>)
* C becomes G (<span class='elvish'>c/g</span>)
* S becomes CH (<span class='elvish'>s/z</span>)
* T becomes TH (<span class='elvish'>t/u</span>)
# Grammar
### Position
Word position in elvish is rather rigorous, as most morphologies aren't very specific. In general the structure of an elvish sentence follows either SVO or OSV, depending if it is a statement or a question respectively.
* 'I drink water.' becomes '*Al anwen acwath*' (<span class='elvish'>Al anwen acwau</span>)
* 'Do I drink water?' becomes '*Acwath al anwen*' (<span class='elvish'>Acwau al anwen</span>)
Adjectives and descriptives are placed after the object of description.
* 'The dark forest' becomes '*Fothes cardath*' (<span class='elvish'>Foues cardau</span>)
Adpositions are placed before the object of description.
* 'Fight in the mountains' becomes '*Gotren fe oltathor*' (<span class='elvish'>Gotren fe oltauor</span>)
### Gender
The elvish language has three main roots for words, described with three genders. These three roots describe how a word morphs based on verbification and plurality. The three genders are:
| Gender | Root | Example |
| :---------- | :-------- | :---------- |
| *Neutral* | Irregular | Silw**eth** |
| *Masculine* | -ath | Ign**ath** |
| *Feminine* | -es | Foth**es** |
### Verbs
Verbification is quite loose in elvish, as any word can be made into a verb. To do this, one must know the gender of the word and morph the root accordingly.
| Gender | Root | Verb | Example |
| :---------- | :-------- | :-------- | ----------------------- |
| *Neutral* | Irregular | Irregular | Gith**as** to Gith**e** |
| *Masculine* | -ath | -en | Ign**ath** to Ign**en** |
| *Feminine* | -es | - | Frath**es** to Frath |
There are three temporae for verbs in elvish: future, present, and past. These temporae are defined by three prefixes placed onto the verb root.
| Temporae | Prefix | Example |
| :-------- | :----- | :----------- |
| *Past* | Man- | **Man**githe |
| *Present* | An- | **An**ignen |
| *Future* | Yan- | **Yan**frath |
If the verb is used without a temporal prefix, it is called the root verb. The root verb can be used either as the imperative version of a verb or to represent the verb as a noun based on the context of the sentence. For example, '*Ignen*' can mean either 'the burning' or 'burn!' depending on the context.
Due to no augmentation outside of the temporal, word position is fixed in the elvish language to appoint the subject of the verb, as the subject is always placed directly in front of the verb.
### Definitive Article
Most of the elvish languages does not use a definitive article. However, when it is necessary to refer to a specific instance the prefix '*at*-' (<span class='elvish'>at</span>) can be added. For example, if it is necessary to ask if someone went to *the* house, instead of a house or my house etc. the speaker can use '*atfilestes*' instead of '*filestes*'.
### Adverbiality
A noun can be made into an adverbial by adding the prefix '*be*-' (<span class='elvish'>be</span>) to the noun. The adverbiality of the word can be translated similarly to the -y suffix in the common tongue. For example, to change ice into icy, '*rawath*' becomes '*berawath*'.
### Possession
Possession in Elvish is declared by the use of the word '*mal*' (<span class='elvish'>mal</span>) as a affix between the possessed and the possessor. For example, 'forest of fire' would be '*fothes-mal-Ignath*' or <span class='elvish'>fouesmalIgnau</span> (in the common tongue, there are dashes put in between the affix for readability). In addition to the affix, the possessor is written with a capital letter.
There is one exception to the '*mal*' affix, which are the pronouns. The pronouns have their own specific set of possessive forms.
| Pronoun | Translation | Possessive | Elvish |
| :------------- | :---------- | :--------- | :--------------------------------- |
| *I* | Al | Mayal | <span class='elvish'>Mayal</span> |
| *You* | El | Mayel | <span class='elvish'>Mayel</span> |
| *They* | On | Malon | <span class='elvish'>Malon</span> |
| *He* | An | Malan | <span class='elvish'>Malan</span> |
| *She* | En | Malen | <span class='elvish'>Malen</span> |
| *We* | Alna | Malna | <span class='elvish'>Malna</span> |
| *You (plur.)* | Elna | Mayena | <span class='elvish'>Mayena</span> |
| *They (plur.)* | Ona | Mayona | <span class='elvish'>Mayona</span> |
### Plurality
The plural of a word is decided by a suffix added to the word. The suffix is determined by the ending of the word.
| Word End | Plural | Example |
| :---------- | :----- | :------------ |
| *Neutral* | -or | Widarch**or** |
| *Masculine* | -or | Ignath**or** |
| *Feminine* | -i | Theres**i** |
The plural of a personification of a word, no matter the root, is always morphed in the feminine way. For example, '*Oltath**is***' becomes '*Oltath**isi***', despite the root of '*Oltath*' being masculine.

###### Translation
In the before times, there was nothing but a black void. Nobody knows why it was there and for how long it was there. Then, a small light came into the void. This was Ellathin, father of all. His bright light shone a path for his family to follow into the void. Together, they took the energy in the void and purified it to the Godly sources. They created Archon with these Godly sources.
